Lawyers are WATCHing abuse by authorities
12th Apr., lawyers concerning human rights declare human rights watch network on G8 Summit.
The G8 Summit will be held at Lake Toya in Hokkaido and other events are scheduled until July. Not only VIPs from foreign countries will come to Japan during this period, many social movements and NGOs are preparing various events. Japanese police and the security officers are becoming very nervous on their activities for fear of "violent anti-globalism movement" as well as "terror."
The lawyers' network, called WATCH, said the police had intensified the surveillance of civil movements since last year. Recently, they also reported, several foreigners, including Antonio Negri, had refused to enter Japan and repatriation without proper reason.
They are deeply concerning on those situation in Japan and decided to start WATCH.
Their activity include; compile and publish information about improper enforcement of law on their blog, give legal advises to social movements planning events on G8, advocation to prevent excessive control over people's activities.
